Precious {6}

Stephanie here.
It has been a while...we know.
Tyler tried to go as long as he could without seeing this movie, until one day, there was nothing else to rent. I've been wanting to see it only because it got some awards.
It's about a young girl who is raped by her father and has his children...and the difficulties growing up in these circumstances with an insane mother.
It's a hard movie to watch...there isn't really anything too graphic, so that's good.
I think this movie represents reality, I don't think Hollywood has hindered that or made glamour out of a hard life...it's a pretty good depiction.
I recommend watching this movie, although you have to be in the mood for drama.
Don't let Mariah Carey's guest appearance turn you off, I think she actually did a decent job. I usually am not attracted to movies that have singers acting in them, but I'll let this one slide.

Enjoy...well, you won't enjoy it but I think you'll be interested.

The Cove {10}

This must see documentary was outstanding and absolutely upsetting.
Let's just say if I were in Japan right now, I'd probably be in jail for punching a dolphin fisher in the mouth.
There is something happening out there that YOU have no idea about and you won't know until you watch this documentary. Hello? I gave it a 10 for crying out loud! That's a K Critics FIRST! That's how much I want you to watch it.
It's your duty as a human, not an American, or a Frenchman, or a woman...a HUMAN, to watch this documentary.

I cried and got really pissed off...but then when I read the updates on their homepage, I was quite pleased...watch the documentary, visit the homepage, and see how you can make a difference. Not that I'm requiring this, but you'll probably thank me for the recommendation.

Fantastic Mr. Fox {8}

We loved this movie...and so did our room-mates. The characters are so darn cute and hilarious and I just love their sense of humor. This is a story of Mr. Fox wanting the best for his family, but isn't very good at it all of the time...that's all I'm going to say. Just trust me, you'll enjoy it.
I've gained a some verbage from this movie...for example,"what the cuss!"
You'll know what I mean when you see it...you just have to!
The animation is fun and quirky...it made me feel all cozy watching it because it almost seemed like an old movie.
Grab some hot chocolate and a blanket to enjoy this movie.

Brothers {6.5}

Not a 7...but a strong 6.5.
We liked it...good story line, pretty predictable, but left you hanging on some of the obvious expectations that kept it tasteful.
It's about how war can alter the minds of soldiers and affect the lives of their families. The actors are really good...Natalie Portman is in it and I (Steph) love her.
This is a special critique because our friend Brad helped us...so this is even more legit.
Steph cried. Tyler and Brad were left a little depressed...but it was a good movie.

We'd rather watch this than the Blind Side, but not rather than Sherlock Holmes...and I'll tell you why in the next post.

The Time Traveler's Wife {7}

I read the book in high school and absolutely loved it. So descriptive, so lovely.
Unfortunately, the movie cover looks ultra cheesy, but the movie is so romantic, sexy, heart tugging, heart breaking, and makes you feel like you're in it. There are some good sides to being a time traveler's wife...you'll have to see it to see what I mean. Even Tyler liked this movie, so if you're a guy, don't shut it down just yet! It's not The Notebook. It has time travel in it!
Yeah, I cried...Tyler almost did, too.

If you're dreaming of love or are in love, this movie is a go.

Sid and Nancy {0.5}

How it started: Horrible
How it ended: I don't know.
Recommendation? Don't watch it...unless...

...you like watching people shoot up and be really gross.
Yeah, It's the story of Sid Vicious and his love with Nancy, but if I had to know details, I'd rather read about it that watch this movie.

I gave it a 0.5 because someone actually made an effort to make this movie...and although it may have been a good portrayal of his life...I don't think many of you would even remotely enjoy watching it...but then again, I have no idea how it ends...couldn't bare watching more than 20 minutes of it.

Capitalism: A Love Story {7}

Steph K. here. My brother, Adrian, recommended this documentary. If you're a person who likes different takes on conspiracies or likes to get into the nitty gritty of our government (me!), you'll find this movie very informative. It's no surprise that there are many crooked, greedy, thieves up top running our country. If you're someone who is struggling financially, it'll get you a little p.o. and we have every right, as an "American" to feel that way.

I think, as a friend, you should definitely watch this movie for awareness sake.
